Only a Plank Between One and Perdition

When caring for others it is important to upkeep yourself as well.

I nearly passed out in the hospital today, as relief that Emily's surgery went well caused the adrenaline to leave my body. My body promptly realized that my sugar meter had run out and it was time to shut down.

Mia DeAngelo

I'd like to introduce you to Mia, a character from a story I'm working on. Having given Toi a summary, she fell in love with it and wanted to do the character designs.

Mia is one of three protagonists; the story follows Mia's performances as a professional actress in classical theatre. After a disasterous previous year, she and her best friend Coriander work to pull their playhouse out of its financial troubles. In the meantime, they find themselves falling for the new girl, Sable.

Writing Mia has been fun, Emily called her an imp, and I think in certain ways it fits for the first act.

This image is pretty suggestive, so there's an accompanying image of Sable.

Toi and I haven't finished Coriander yet, but I'll show it when Toi and I get his design worked out.

Epic

The project I mentioned in my last post is about to go to production.

There a single error during QA that wasn't a data issue and thus not my arena: A header had the wrong font color.

I feel like a badass.

Updates

Lately I've been working on some legacy code from a contractor. It's my job to update the security on this and increase performance where I can. It's taken me six weeks.

At least one person who worked on this at the contractor knew what they were doing, at least one person did not. I detect about 3 flavors of code.

Something I run into a lot is this:

If (Condition)
   Do A
   Do B
Else
   Do A
   Do C
Endif

Which is mostly harmless, but combined with all the other little irritations I've come to hate the anonymous programmer who came before me. So I will curse them with the strongest curse I know:

Anonymous Programmer, I wish that you will soon become competent, realize the error of you ways, and be forced to maintain all of your old code for the rest of your life.

Happy to report

I am happy to report that I am not the source of my own problems.

This doesn't seem to have reduced my problems any, as others seem intent on providing.

Then again, maybe this is the natural resistance one faces when moving forward.

Wait, does that mean that by moving forward, pushing against my boundaries, I'm still the source of my own problems?

Large Hard Drive Collider

At work I have various VMs that replicate servers.

Noob Explaination: A virtual machine (VM) is basically an emulated computer that runs on your normal, physical computer. Like when you emulate all those SNES games.

One of them lives on a USB hard drive (yes this works fine and is zippy). Anyway due to how VMware works a USB device is only mounted on one at a time.

What would happen if I mounted the USB hard drive that the VM was running on, to itself? Expecting something like the below image I googled for the answer.

What I actually got was this:

Stuffy

me: I'm watching Emma
For research
Zach: Oh, does it have Mr. Darcy in it?
He's such a dreamboat!
me: I'm confused, is this based off of something Jane Austen wrote? You're the second person to say that
me: This is different
It's an anime first of all
Zach: oh, well that wasn't clear
me: Well I didn't know the confusion
Zach: I thought you were researching how to talk like a stuffy British person so you could write for Sable
Sable would huff at you calling her stuffy
Zach: well you write her like an aristocrat in that deliberate, fancy style
Sable: Most of us speak as we were taught Mr Francks. I would not judge you or another on such shallow traits, so I would appreciate it if you would extend the same courtesy to me.
